GUJRANWALA – The Gujranwala divisional commissioner has directed the Quaid-e-Azam Divisional Public School (QDPS) not to enhance its fees for at least one year and also urged all private educational institutes to freeze their fee structure for the same period.
Presiding over a meeting of the board of governors of the QDPS, he added that the provincial government had been taking concrete measures to enhance the literacy rate and improve facilities in the educational institutes. He added the prevailing circumstances demand relief in fee structures and the private sector should also come forward for this mission.
District Coordination Officer (DCO) Barrister Nabil Ahmad Awan, Commissioner Riaz Ahmad Butt, Executive District Officer (EDO) Revenue Iqbal Hassan, Assistant Commissioner General Khalid Arshad Mirza, Haji Murad Ali, Sheikh Sarwat Ikram, Sheikh Muhammad Aslam, Sheikh Muhammad Nasim, Zarrar Kaleem and Principal Najam-uz-Zaman attended the meeting.
Unity group sweeps journalists’ election:
The Unity Group has made a clean sweep in the annual elections of Gujranwala Union of Journalists, an affiliated body of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ). Raja Habib and Nauman Ahmad Butt have been elected as president and secretary, respectively.
The election was monitored by a representative of PFUJ Ashfaq Sajid while 134 out of 135 valid voters cast their votes. According to the final results, Raja Habib bagged 73 votes for the slot of president while his rival Tanvir Ahmad Butt managed to get 57 votes. Rana Mohsin Khalid and Asim Amin Chaudhry were elected as vice presidents by getting 85 and 70 votes, respectively.
Nauman Ahmad Butt was elected as secretary general after a tough competition of 65-63 votes while Asad Habib and Muhammad Qaisar Butt were elected as assistant secretaries and Muhammad Ijaz Malik succeeded on the slot of finance secretary. Besides these office-bearers, 15 members of the executive committee and six delegate members were also elected for the year 2011-12.
PITD officers visit ceramic industry: Under-training officers in Pakistan Institute of Trading and Development (PITD) visited ceramics industry of the city and took keen interest in the manufacturing process of the ceramic wares. Ceramics Association President Malik Amin Naz briefed the delegation about the role of ceramic industry in the country’s economy and added that ceramic wares of the city had been meeting the need of the country besides earning valuable foreign exchange through exports.
ROAD ACCIDENT CLAIMS LIFE: An eighty-year-old citizen died while six others injured in separate road accidents.
In the first incident, senior citizen Barkat Ali succumbed to his injuries after being crushed by a speedy vehicle on Pasrur Road in the precincts of Ferozewala Police Station. In the second incident, a collision between a motorcycle-rickshaw and a tractor caused injuries to six passengers, Muhammad Sarwar, Akhter, Naeem, Gulzaran Bibi, Aasia and Kaka.
