LAHORE – Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) Chairman Sohail Lashari has demanded the government play a greater role to deal with stagnant industrial activity, rising unemployment and the escalating prices of everyday items.
He urged the government come up with a solution to the economic stagnation of the country. He stated that the acute energy crisis has crippled the industrial sector leaving industrialists with no option but to shut down industrial units, leaving thousands jobless. It was noted that the prime minister had directed the gas authorities to ensure gas supply for five days a week to industry, a directive which had fallen victim to bureaucratic hurdles.
He said that the alarming energy shortage was resulting swelling losses with every passing day. He urged the government to ensure at least the promised gas supply to the Punjab industry. Lashari also lashed out at a proposal to increase petroleum prices by 13 percent and likely consequences of the already beleaguered business community.
