NAB arrests mass transit system project accused

LAHORE – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Punjab on Monday arrested Danish Shamshad involved in the Lahore Mass Transit System Project reference from the accountability courts’ premises. Danish is son and bona fide beneficiary of key accused Shamshad Gulzar who embezzled Rs 401.155 million from funds allocated for the Lahore Mass Transit System Project. NAB arrested him with permission of the accountability court.
Earlier, Advocate Saadia tried to take the accused out of the accountability courts’ premises in her Honda Civic bearing registration number LRL-3303 but at entrance of the building, NAB officials stopped and asked her to leave the accused in the court premises. Saadia brought the accused back to the court premises and when investigating officer of the reference Nadeem Sajid tried to arrest Danish, his uncle and some other people stared abusing Nadeem and threatened to kill him.
They brought Danish in court to seek shelter against torture and arrest by NAB authorities. Investigation officer of the reference presented arrest warrant of the accused, which were issued by the NAB chairman. The court, after seeing the arrest warrants, directed NAB to arrest the accused while instructing the IO not to torture the accused and deal with him according to law. Danish will be produced in court today (Tuesday) for getting his physical remand.
