LCCI economic dialogue off to a roaring start

LAHORE – In an attempt to explore all available options to the ongoing economic crisis, the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) is holding an economic dialogue today. Leading economic experts, policy makers and business leaders will give their insights on how to introduce transparency in decision making in the government and the private sector.
The decision to initiate an economic dialogue has been taken as the gap revenue and expenditure has grown, increasing the vulnerability of the economic superstructure and requiring both the federal and provincial governments to tighten its belt with a view to putting economy on track.
All areas of the economy including reformed General Sales Tax, fiscal deficit, poor governance, the lack of credit provision for the business community, energy shortage, heavy government borrowings, negative results in the large scale manufacturing sector, food security, complications in the taxation system and the poor security situation will be addressed in the economic dialogue. Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Shahzad Ali Malik will be the chief guest while LCCI Senior Vice President Sheikh Mohammad Arshad would also share his viewpoint.
Other notable speakers include Dr Akmal Hussain, APTMA Chairman Gohar Ijaz, Dr Pervaiz Tahir, Dr Rashid Amjad, Dr Shujat Ali and Almas Haider. The LCCI has long called for a sector specific strategy to deal with the issues faced by the economy. The objective for holding the economic dialogue is to sketch out a roadmap for economic revival given the number of internal and external challenges faced by the business community.
