ISLAMABAD – The first of its kind mega Fashion Week was full of excitement for the entertainment-starved Islooites. The four-day gala attracted large crowds of fashion-mongers – men and women. On the final day, Bina’s clothes were an instant hit with the young and trendy.
An up and coming designer with a successful outlet in the capital, she is going to be one of the next big names in the fashion world of the country. The label is working on several projects including drama serials and talk shows. According to her perception before everything she ‘visualises the client dressed in an outfit carrying it with ease whether the client is at a formal dinner, Eid function or a wedding.’
Founder of one of the leading fashion houses in Pakistan, Nilofer Shahid has shared runways with couture kings and dressed the likes of Princess Diana and Madonna. She has accomplished this without ever having been formally trained. Her regal looking outfits were showcased beautifully by the models, with the long flowing coats an instant hit with the ladies, especially those from Europe and Arab countries who were in the audience.
Students from Iqra University and the School of Fine Art Design, (GIFT) Gujranwala demonstrated exceptional talent and were the surprise designers of the IFW. Nighat Rizvi thanked all sponsors, the makeup artistes the young and enthusiastic volunteers and all the other persons without whom the week would not have been possible. Pakistan Today was the media partner of this event.
Between the two shows, a signing ceremony took place between the World Fashion Organisation (WFO) and Triple E Events for the newly formed Pakistan Fashion Council for which Tariq Amin has been appointed the CEO for three years, while membership will be open to all designers established as well as upcoming. Arshad Siddiqui, the man behind Triple E, said his company will initially undertake all expenses. A jury of foreign fashion experts will select the best designer at IFW who will be sponsored to attend the New York Fashion Week.
One of the sponsors for Islamabad Fashion Week was the national flag-carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and its presence was seen in the form of smartly turned out stewardesses who ‘manned’ the counter at the venue. An announcement by someone in the management hierarchy was passed around and caused its own excitement among the designers, especially the up and coming ones.
PIA has invited all the designers who took part in the show to submit their designs for a new uniform for the cabin and ground crew after registering themselves as participants. The winning design will be judged by a panel of experts keeping in mind all aspects of the requirements of a suitable uniform.
The winner will be awarded the contract for supplying the uniforms. So, successful ‘week’ has come to an end – read four days of glamour, excitement and a good effort to put Islamabad on the fashion map of Pakistan.
