ISLAMABAD – Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Athar Abbas on Monday said that armies can only win wars if their nations support them.
Speaking at a Seminar entitled, “Role of education broadcasters in eradication of growing tendencies of intolerance and violence in the Society”, held at Allama Iqbal Open University, he said that wars were fought and won by the nations not only by armed forces.
General Athar said that Pakistan army’s battle with extremists could only be won with the support of the masses. “If we are unable to root out increasing menace of terrorism and extremism, it will eat up the entire fabric of our society,” he said. He urged the religious scholars to play their role for highlight the real values and image of Islam.
Athar also highlighted the importance of unified education system in the country, saying, for ending sense of deprivation among the people there was a need to introduce unified education system. Other speakers included Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira, Federal Education Minister Sardar Aseff Ahmed Ali and Director General Radio Pakistan Murtaza Solangi.
They stressed the role of educational broadcast media in fighting the menace of extremism and terrorism in the society and warned against use of media by non-state elements.
