KARACHI – The Sindh government on Monday discharged from their services 12 of the 17 advisers to Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah. Adviser on Information and Archives Sharmila Farooqi and Adviser on Tourism Imtiaz Sheikh and Shah’s close aide Muhammad Siddique alias Abu Bhai were also among those dismissed.
The others included Jehangir Dilawar Khilji, Dinshaw Ankel Saria, Ghulam Qadir Malkani, Babar Leghari, Muhammad Kamran Behan, Mufti Ferozdin Hazarvi, Sardar Aamir Khan Bhutto, Jameel Soomro and Waqas Malik. The government has kept the services of five advisers, two technocrats and three political people. They include Adviser on Planning and Development Dr Kaiser Bengali, Adviser on Political Affairs Rashid Rabbani, Adviser on Mines and Minerals Imamuddin Shauqeen, Adviser on Investment Zubair Motivala, and Khawaja Izharul Hassan.
Bengali and Motivala are the technocrats while the remaining three are the political personalities, as per the quota of one each of three major coalition parties of the government. Under the 18th Constitutional Amendment, the federal and provincial governments can only appoint five advisers. After the dismissal of the 12 advisers, two important ministries of the provincial government, Information and Archives, and Tourism, have fallen vacant. According to official sources, the portfolios would be now filled as per the parties’ quota.
Accordingly, the information and archives would go to a PPP MPA, while the tourism portfolio would be handed over to an elected MPA nominated for the slot by the PML-F.
