Water level in Attabad Lake starts to fall

HUNZA – Water level in Attabad Lake, at Gojal valley, has started receding at about 7 inches per hour after Frontier Works Organization (FWO)’s detonation of the blocked spillway of Hunza river. Water has gone down by around 3.5 feet since opening of the spillway on Sunday.
A scale has been fixed near the lake to measure water level. Lower parts of the Gojal valley were dammed because of blockade of the river, as a result of Attabad landslide disaster that killed 19 persons besides destroying the villages of Attabad Bala and Payeen, displacing inhabitants of Sarat and Salmanabad.
