LAHORE – The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) N-5 Central has started a campaign against overloading, NH&MP Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Ibne Hussain said on Sunday while inspecting the road-safety campaign and special patrolling on the national highway.
Hussain said that economic growth demands an adequate transport infrastructure. Overloaded vehicles, especially freight vehicles, are destroying our roads, impacting negatively on economic growth. The NH&MP DIG said that overloading is a safety hazard. Hussain said that damage to roads owing to overloading leads to higher maintenance and repair costs and shortens life of a road, which burdens the state and law-abiding commuters who ultimately pay cost of overloading.
He said that drivers of overloaded vehicles could not properly see other traffic, which leads to accidents. Hussain directed patrolling officers to take action against violators and impound vehicles, which carry excessive things. SSP Inksar Khan briefed the zonal commander about special measures taken by the NH&MP to tackle overloading.
