MELBOURNE – Newly crowned Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic Sunday said he was sure Andy Murray will break through and win a Grand Slam after his latest heartbreak. The Serbian world number three never gave Murray a chance, winning 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 for his second Australian title.
It was more misery for Murray, 23, who crashed to his second straight sets loss in the last two Australian finals. Murray was bidding to become the first British man to win a Grand Slam since Fred Perry in 1936, and the first since Perry to win the Australian Open since 1934.
“Andy’s a very talented player and he’s a hard worker. He’s been in finals three times, and he just needs to make that final step,” Djokovic said.
