US consul disburses aid among terror victims

PESHAWAR – United States acting Consul General in Peshawar Constance Arvis said that US people and the government was determined to help the terrorism-stricken people by reviving their living sources.
“Terrorism has not only taken precious lives but it has crippled the economy and destroyed the infrastructure,” she said, while addressing the tools distribution ceremony among the terror-ridden families at Peshawar on Saturday. The ceremony was part of US Agency for International Development (USAID) project that aimed at aiding the terrorism-stricken people of the Malakand division for reviving the regional economy.
The USAID is imparting vocation training among men and women belong to Malakand division under ‘Malakand Livelihood Recovering Support to Conflict Affected Families Project’. The consul said that several other projects for Swat and Dir were also in progress, which included bee keeping, artisan and agriculture, adding that through such joint venture US and Pakistan could help in eradication of terrorism and militancy, which ruining the families and infrastructure in the region.
Provincial Disaster Management Authority Director General Shakeel Qadar Khan said that each family received financial assistance of $200 and 7200 families from nine different union councils were benefited from the project.
