ISLAMABAD – Refusing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz group’s leaders Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif’s claims, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said their statement alleging that federal government wanted to implicate them in the assassination of former governor Punjab Salman Taseer was “really puzzling.”
In a statement, Kaira also rejected the notion that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had came to their rescue. “This government is led by the PM. The government and the PM are not operating separately,” he said, adding that according to Article 90 of the Constitution as amended in the 18th Amendment, the PM and the ministers together constitute the federal government and if Gilani had “rescued” the Sharifs, then it means that the federal government had rescued them.
The minister said that the PPP-led government did not believe in victimization of its opponents, adding that to the credit of Benazir Bhutto, Asif Zardari and the PM there were no political prisoners in the country.
