Kohat Tunnel closed after suicide bombs kill 8

PESHAWAR – The Pak-Japan Friendship Kohat Tunnel, connecting southern districts and tribal regions with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa capital Peshawar, was closed for traffic late on Friday after suicide attacks in the tunnel killed eight people and injured another 19.
Following the incident, authorities closed the tunnel and diverted traffic towards the 100-year-old Kotal Pass. According to details, two suicide attackers targeted the Kohat Tunnel late on Friday, with the first attacking a truck inside the tunnel. The second bomber blew himself up outside the tunnel. The two explosions killed eight people and injured 19 others. The deceased included two women.
Kohat Police said the first explosion occurred inside a truck that was passing through the tunnel, adding that around 400 kgs to 500 kgs of explosives were used in the attack. In the second explosion, the suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden car into a security checkpost outside the tunnel. However, no one was manning the post at the time.
