KARACHI – The police on Saturday arrested a teenage boy for allegedly writing blasphemous material on examination answer sheets. Seventeen-year-old ‘S’, a resident of Malir, was detained following a complaint by Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) Controller of Examinations Agha Akbar Mirza, police said.
The BIEK management has also sent photocopies of the answer sheets as proof of the blasphemy charges against the teenager to the police. The police added that FIR No 56/11 has been lodged against S under Sections 295-C and 109 of the Pakistan Panel Code on Mirza’s complaint.
Shahrah-e-Noor Jehan Station Investigation Officer Qudrat Sher Ali told Pakistan Today that during investigation, the boy told the police that his two Norwegian cousins, who visited the family in January 2009, had influenced him with anti-Islamic views. The statement said: “My two cousins visited Karachi for 11 days. One day, when I returned home after offering Jumma prayer they laughed at me, saying that Islam has detained Muslims.”
“Both my cousins teased me and started convincing me that they were enjoying a happy life in Oslo while I am visiting mosques. They told me that their country was free and no one could stop them from expressing themselves. Gradually, I started thinking about the liberty they enjoyed,” the statement quoted S as saying.
The SIO said the boy was presented before Judicial Magistrate-VI Maqbool Memon, who sent the boy on a judicial remand for 14 days. Ali said the police had asked the BIEK management to provide the original answer sheets of Islamiyat and physics while the statement of board officials would also be recorded for further investigation.
the stdent should be given punishment ,ever recieved by any one, and should carry out investigations and trials for further informations,,,i condemed and protest him
You can condemn and protest but there is no reason to punish the boy for havig another opinion than you.
We dont even know what he has written.
Its not right what you are saying … just condemnation is not sufficient ,… proper case should be resisted according to the constitution of Pakistan, fair and just trial should take place without any discrimination and if the guy is really found guilty, he must be punished … if not done so the people will take law in their hand as was done many times before … this issue is not an ordinary issue as you say simply to condemn.
I know what he did was wrong but he is a grade 10 student and the times we live in arent exactly the golden age of Muslims, He should be punished but not to harshly. We should focus more on getting these youngsters on the right path.

Here in Norway i can say that historical people like,Hitler, Stalin,Mao etc where bad people, you can of disagree but there is no crime comitted.

My heart bleeds when I think the kind of society we live in where there is no freedom of expression. We need to free our society of these barbaric laws that strangulate our conscience. We need to revolutionize our education system and bring it on par with education in the West.
Here in Europa we have a long tradition of making fun of religioin and thats not a crime of course.
Muslims belive Muhammed(Peace be upon his viktims) was the best man that ever lived, thats far from the truth for everyone who has read some history and the Quran.
I am an agnostic and the Quran show no respect for people like me, so why should i show any respect to the man made Quran, its just a bad book like Mein Kamf after all.

Only dogs & piggs can choose to do what ever they want and when ever they want. All the mankind every where on this planent is bound with certain principles, rules, regulations and traditions. In the name of 'Freedom of Speech', one can not be allowed to bark about things which one does not know even a bit about it. Whoever makes fun of religious leaders of any religion does not deserve any respect. If any meatball doen not respect things which some one else respects, why one should respect those damn fools society's laws. We need to move on. Suppression of views leads to this. What if he committed blasphemy? Whats so wrong with that. Hes entitled to his own opinion. How does this effect you? Pakistan needs to move towards secularity and greater freedom of speech. Hes just a kid, its his choice, forcing religion onto him will only add fuel to the fire.
the boy needs sympathy and psychotherapy,/ counseling to teach him golden principles of Islam and Quran that need be followed strictly to become a good Muslim. he needs to be interviewed in detail whether any of his dear one became victim of terrorism. there might be some latent misconception of Islam in his mind which need be rectified by his elders, teachers to make him an asset for the society, not a criminal. Unfortunately, our present system is making people criminals for no fault of theirs but of prevailing system in Pakistan.
i think he is an teen age ,and if he has say somthing ,he and his lord know ,we shall not punish the boy,he is human and allha have given the human to decide what shall he for himself,so we shall not inter fare some unimportant issues
The reaction of the general public has only confirmed the assertions of the young lad´s cousins. The society is blind and deaf for any reasoning or critical questioning, because to think itself is a crime. I pity the boy.
