ISLAMABAD – Food and Agriculture Minister Nazar Gondal has said that a high efficiency Irrigation System would be introduced next month. He said that the government maintains its commitment to establishing badly needed modern irrigation infrastructure to enhance agricultural productivity and save water as water resources deplete.
He was presiding over a meeting on the project entitled “Water Conservation and Productivity Enhancement through High Efficiency Irrigation System” at the ministry. The minister said delay in the implementation could only be compensated if we succeed to start the much needed project next month in all provinces simultaneously.
Water, he said is a national issue with the government aware of the need to aid farmers in the installation of modern irrigation systems for conserving water and boosting output. All provinces are sensitised to the importance of the issue and have assented to the commencement of the project as quickly as possible”, said the minister.
Gondal went on to say that under the revised PC-1, provinces are empowered to identify the beneficiaries, companies and supervise and implement the project themselves. Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC), he said will be given the task of registering the service provider companies and monitoring the progress of the project.
“The provinces can ask for our help if and when required. Our single point agenda is to make it happen soon”, added the minister.
