QUETTA – Seven people, including four policemen were injured when a car bomb exploded in Quetta on Saturday. However, the police officer who was the prime target of the attack remained unhurt. Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ) claimed the responsibility for the attack.
The bomb, planted in a Suzuki car, exploded as the official vehicle of Superintendent of Police Investigation Shabaan Bangash passed through Nechari Road injuring four police guards and three civilians. However, Bangash remained unhurt he not present in the vehicle as at the time of the blast.
DIG Operation Hamid Shakeel said the van carrying the explosives was detonated by a remote-controlled device. Another police official said the explosive material used in the attack might weigh over 10 kilogrammes.
The injured police personnel included constables Mukhtiar, Abbass Ali, Muhammad Noor and Munzoor Hussain Hussain, while the three civilians were Fareeda (8), Nouria (7) and Sumair (12).
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Ali Sher Haideri claimed the responsibility for the attack and said the prime target was Shabaan Bangash for his anti-LJ activities. He said the police officer had desecrated a mosque during a raid by storming in with his boots to arrest some men.
