LAHORE – Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that the Punjab government would not give in to any “national or international pressure” in the trial of US consulate employee Raymond Davis, who killed three people on Thursday. He said the investigation would conducted on merit.
Addressing a press conference on Friday at the Director General Public relations (DGPR), the law minister said there “is no pressure on the Punjab government. We will not accept any pressure in this case and the guilty will be punished and the innocent will get justice”.
He told reporters that a murder case under section 302 had been registered against the accused vide FIR number 47 at the Lytton Road police station and investigations were being carried out after getting Raymond’s remand from a judicial magistrate. Sanaullah said no one was above the law and the Punjab government was taking action under its legislation.
He said the investigation would be completed within 14 days and the challan of the case would be presented in court after that.The law minister said the federal government should refuse to cede to foreign pressure. Sanaullah said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had assured the relatives of the deceased that the government would ensure that justice would be served.
