Former PU IT principal charged with misuse of authority

LAHORE – An accountability court on Friday framed the charge on Punjab University College of Information Technology former principal Dr Majid Naeem involved in a reference of misappropriation of Rs 2.79 million through misuse of authority.
The accused denied the charge and claimed his innocent, after which the court summoned prosecution witnesses for further proceedings for Fabruary 3. A reference had been filed against Dr Majis that he withdrew Rs 2,797,850 from the university funds without approval of the competent authority and converted the money entrusted to him for his personal use by corrupt, dishonest and illegal means.
Naveed Iqbal’s remand extended: A Model Town judicial magistrate on Friday extended physical remand of Naveed Iqbal, step brother of Supreme Court Justice Javed Iqbal, and his accomplice Abbas until February 3. The Factory Area Police presented the accused in court after completion of his five-day physical remand and sought a seven-day extension to further investigate them but the court granted a five-day extension.
Naveed was arrested on charge of murdering his parents with help of Abbas and Ameen. Naveed had allegedly murdered his father, former deputy inspector general (DIG) Malik Abdul Majeed, and stepmother, Zarina, with help of two other men due to monetary disputes. The accused initially denied the charges before the media, but later admitted to planning the murder.
The accused would be represented before the magistrate on February 3.
