Dacoits arrested, Rs 800,000 seized within hours

FAISALABAD – The police moved into action and recovered Rs 800,000 snatched from a disabled woman who was robbed while travelling in a rickshaw. According to details, Abida Parveen, a disabled old woman of Mohallah Fatehabad of Jhaal Khanuana Chowk, used to call a rickshaw driver Nazeer Ahmed whenever she needed to go out for any household chore.
On the day of the incident, she called Nazeer and told him that she wanted to take money to her brother in Kaleem Shaheeed Colony. She took her son Omar Daraz with him and boarded the rickshaw and set for Kaleem Shaheed Colony. When they reached a graveyard adjacent to the colony, three armed men ambushed their rickshaw and snatched the bag containing money from her at gunpoint and escaped.
Raza Abad SHO Shahid Sarwar Alvi suspected the rickshaw driver and interrogated him. The accused rickshaw driver confessed to his involvement in the case and disclosed the names of his three accomplices as Asif, Babar and Humayun who were also arrested within hours and the stolen money was recovered from their possesion.
The gang has confessed to 79 thefts, robberies and muggings that have recently occurred in the different parts of the city.
