COAS, Malik discuss security

RAWALPINDI – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Kayani and Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Friday discussed internal security in the context of the recent wave of terrorist attacks across the country. Malik called on the COAS at GHQ in Rawalpindi.
According to ISPR, matters related to internal security were discussed during the meeting.
An official of the Interior Ministry told Pakistan Today that the meeting discussed the growing threat of terrorism and those responsible for these incidents. The Karachi situation, law and order in general and the Lahore incident involving the killings of three people also came under discussion, the official said.
The law and order situation in Balochistan and the issue of weapons’ smuggling from Afghanistan were also taken up. Separately, Malik also held a meeting with the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, Fazlur Rehman.
A source in the JUI-F said Fazl called on the interior minister to express condolences over the sad demise of Malik’s father-in-law.
