LAHORE – Civil society activists and intellectuals on Friday condemned killing of three Pakistani citizens by an American national on Thursday. Political analyst Orya Maqbool Jan said that the incident is shameful and challenges Pakistan’s sovereignty and independence.
“They don’t even behave in this manner in places they have occupied,” Jan said while referring to Americans and their occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq. He said that this sort of behaviour is seen in jails managed by Americans.
Human rights activist Tahira Abdullah said that no one is above the law and everyone should respect laws. She said that this case should be rightly perused and the convict be punished. “Nothing is worth a human life”, Tahira said adding that no immunity could be equivalent to any human life. She said that no one shoots anyone in self defence. “He could’ve tried to immobilise the two motorcyclists by shooting them in the leg or somewhere else”, she added.
The human rights activist said that such incidents involving Americans are becoming frequent now. She said that the federal and Punjab governments should start listening to the people and take notice of such incidents and make sure that they do not happen again.
Foundation for Advancement of Science and Technology (FAST) student Aqsa said that the American national be punished for violating laws. She said that diplomats are not allowed to carry weapons with them adding that the car that came for Davis’ rescue had crushed other people showing how much Americans respect Pakistani law and citizens. Aqsa said that they should be prosecuted for having a fake number plate.
She said that it is disgraceful how two foreigners violated the law and crushed people. Aqsa said that Americans think about promoting their image in Pakistan, which would never be achieved if they behave like this in a country like Pakistan.
