PESHAWAR – Pakistan’s top squash player Arshad Iqbal Burki upset England’s Ryan Thompson on the opening day of the US $ 5000 Philadelphia Squash Open, which got under way at Fairmount Racquet club Pennsylvania, Philadelphia on Friday.
With his victory in the qualifying round, Arshad Iqbal Burki, once 52 in the world ranking and Pakistan No. 3, took berth into the main round to face top seed Julien Balbo of France on today (Saturday).
“I would try my best to do good against Julien Balbo of France,” Arshad Iqbal Burki said. He said playing against tough rivals means one is learning good squash. He said Julien Balbo of France is the top seed with Shahun Le Rouz of England.
About the match against Ryan Thompson of England, he said it was a tough battle as the match stretched to five sets. The score was 11-7, 6-11, 12-10,8-11 and 11-5.
