Rs 5.3m robbery in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD – In a brazen broad daylight robbery in the capital, three armed bandits on Thursday held up an accountant of a local advertising agency and fled with Rs 5.3 million. The accountant, Malik Abdul Rasheed, son of Rehmat Ali, told police that he was on his way to office after drawing cash from a bank in I-9 sector when three armed men robbed him near I-8/2 Sector.
Responding to the situation, police set up pickets near Sabzi Mandi and tried to intercept the fleeing robbers. They, however, resorted to firing to which police retaliated. Police claim that one of the robbers was injured in the shootout, but they managed to escape. Further down the street, police later found the vehicle used in the robbery which they had left. Police said the robbers also tried to seek refuge in a nearby house, but upon the inmates’ resistance, they fled.
