PML-Q wants Zafar Qureshi removed from FIA team

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) parliamentarians on Thursday demanded that the government remove Zafar Ahmed Qureshi, head of the FIA team investigating the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scam.
A day after the FIA sought arrest warrants for PML-Q’s Moonis Elahi, two female parliamentarians, Shahnaz Sheikh and Attiya Inayatullah, came to the Chaudhrys’ rescue during Thursday’s session. Speaking on a point of order, Shahnaz Sheikh said, “Zafar Qureshi is known for his grudges against the Chaudhrys and hence he is victimising Moonis Elahi in the scam probe.”
Citing ‘motives behind the grudges’, she said, Chaudhrys in their tenure had demoted Zafar’s brother (Ismail Qureshi) to an OSD and that they had also denied party ticket to his other brother in 2008 elections. “Therefore he is settling scores with the PML-Q leadership,” she added. She said, “The PML-Q has all the respect for the judiciary but the man heading the FIA team is not partial enough and he must be replaced to ensure a transparent investigation”.
Shahnaz said she wondered as to what kind of political reconciliation was being upheld by the government. Attiya Inayatullah also demanded that Zafar Qureshi be removed from FIA as head of the investigation team.
