The ‘Hangover’ star Ed Helms has warned fans not to expect a third installment in the comedy franchise – because director Todd Phillips won’t “let that happen”. The moviemaker’s 2009 comedy, starring Helms alongside Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha and Heather Graham, was a critical and commercial success, making a massive £311 million at the worldwide box office and winning a Golden Globe award for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy.
The cast is currently filming a follow-up, which will see the characters travel to Thailand for a wedding, but Helms is adamant they won’t be reprising their roles a third time. When asked about the possibility of another sequel, he tells, “I doubt it. I don’t think Todd would let that happen… I would hope that The ‘Hangover’ kind of has a dignified legacy, if that makes any sense.”
