Progressive panel takes LPC elections

LAHORE – The Progressive Panel on Wednesday comprehensively won the annual elections of the Lahore Press Club by out doing the Journalists Panel on three of four main seats. According to the official announcement made by the election committee of Lahore Press Club, Sarmad Bashir successfully defended his presidential slot against his opponent Noman Yawar of the Journalists Panel.
Basheer scored 518 votes, beating his opponent by 131 votes. Progressive Panel’s candidate for vice president, Zahid Abid beat his opponent Farzana Chaudhry by 94 votes and Progressive Panel’s candidate for general secretary Azam Chaudhry beatn his opponent Babar Dogar by 23 votes.
However Journalist Panel’s candidate for the treasurer’s seat Afzal Talib was beaten by Progressive Panel’s candidate Ansar Zahid by 72 votes. The Progressive Panel also won four of the seven seats of the LPC governing body. The successful candidates are Nasira Attique, Sheikh Aftab, Baba Muzamil, Naeem Akhtar, Qazafi Butt, Muneer Chaudhary and Rana Ikram.
