PMI arranges seminar on enterprise resource planning

LAHORE – The Project Management Institute (PMI), US, Lahore chapter organised a seminar, “Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)” at the Holiday Inn Hotel on Thursday. Descon Engineering Chief Information Officer Nauman Majeed gave a presentation on implementation of ERP in various organisations. Senior employees from different companies also attended the seminar.
Majeed briefed the seminar’s participants about importance of ERP in today’s era. He defined ERP as an integration of business management practices and modern technology and said that in today’s corporate environment, there is a need to bridge management practices and technologies together.
Majeed said that there are a lot of challenges to implement ERP in organisations and also discussed various advantages of ERP, as it helps eliminate duplicate work, whereas it also affects working of each person in the organisation from an office boy to the chief executive officer (CEO). It boosts efficient customer response and timely and reliable documentation could also be achieved through ERP, the Descon Engineering official said.
He also discussed general perceptions about ERP and said that most managers fear a change and need some guts to decide positively about ERP. Majeed said that various companies, which launched ERP, had failed to implement it due to improper planning but if they implement given guidelines, the success rate could be much higher. He highlighted importance of proper documentation in order to make ERP successful in an organisation.
The Descon Engineering official also discussed technical points of the ERP system. Majeed’s lecture was followed by a question hour. The seminar’s participants said that as the world is now moving towards modern technologies, Pakistan should also follow suit in order to progress. They said that most of Pakistani organisations lack efficiency and transparency whereas introduction of ERP could get rid of most of the problems.
