KARACHI – The Sindh government on Tuesday decided that it would not give up its constitutional right to collect GST on all services related to the province. The decision was taken at a meeting presided by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House.
Sindh Chief Secretary Ghulam Ali Shah Pasha, Additional Chief Secretary (Planning and Development) Ishaq Lashari, Finance Secretary Muhammad Siddique Memon, Sindh Revenue Board Chairman Nazar Hussain Maher, Secretary to Chief Minister Ahmed Bux Narejo and provincial Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah attended the meeting.
“The provincial government has already established the Sindh Board of Revenue and will collect the GST for all items under group one and two,” an official handout stated. The meeting decided that necessary legislation in this regard would be made before the next budget session of the Sindh Assembly.
On condition of anonymity, an official present in the meeting told Pakistan Today that it was decided that the Sindh government would not compromise on its constitutional right and collect the GST on all taxes in the province. “The GST on all taxes including those related to ports and shipping, telecom, hotels, restaurants, security, etc would be collected by the province.
