LAHORE – The suicide blast near a Shiite procession on Tuesday marked the first such incident in the provincial metropolis this year. Last year several incidents of terrorism occurred in the city. Following is a list of such blasts:
1 On March 8, a suicide attack killed 13 people and injured 90. A terrorist drove a vehicle carrying large amount of explosives into the FIA’s office in Model Town. The blast created a 12 feet deep crater.
2 March 12 witnessed a series of blasts. Initially, two men on foot, wearing vests carrying explosives, detonated bombs at short intervals near the RA Bazaar. As many as 100 people were injured and 59 died. In the late afternoon, five more bombs were detonated in Iqbal Town’s market and created panic; three injuries were reported.
3 On May 28, some gunmen launched raids on two places of worship of Ahmadis, killing more than 80 people. The attackers fired guns and threw grenades at worshippers during Friday prayers.
4 On July 1, three explosions erupted in and around the Data Darbar; 41 people were killed and 175 were wounded.
5 On September 1, three suicide bombers killed 37 people and injured over 300 when they attacked a Shiite mourning procession.
