LAHORE – An accountability court on Wednesday fixed January 31 for framing of charge on Suhail Zia Butt, involved in a reference of embezzlement two million rupees.
Suhail Zia Butt is co-accused in a reference that was filed in 2001.
He has been charged that he embezzled rupees two million when he purchased Ahmad Mansion located at The Mall Lahore for National Industrial Cooperative Corporation.
When the investigation was initiated against Butt, he was not in Pakistan, so he could not join the investigation. After that NAB filed a reference against him which accused him of not joining the investigation wilfully, so the court may declare him absconder.
The court then in June 2001 declared the accused, absconder and sentenced him three year imprisonment, while issuing the perpetual warrant of arrest. Butt came back to Pakistan and NAB arrested him on August 1 last year. Lahore High Court on an application filed by Butt, suspended the convictions of accused awarded by the accountability courts, while directing him to submit the surety bonds in concern court. Accused is on bail now and the accountability court would frame the charge on him on January 31.
FORMER HAJJ DIRECTOR APPEARS IN COURT: An accountability court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a reference field against Hajj former director Maj (r) Rao Shakeel Ahmad, after his appearance in court, till February 9. Shakeel is charged that he prepared fake document on behalf of GHQ in the name of Border Area Committee chairman and got allotted hundreds of kanal of property in Aouliapur, Maqboolpura, in connivance with his father Rao Abdul Jalil Khan and a close relative and former assistance commissioner Ferozwala Rao Faheem Hashim (Late).
Earlier, accused was exempted from his appearance in court as he was a government official and had to participate in several meetings in this regard. During the hearing, NAB filed an application to seek cancellation of this exemption on the grounds that he was no more a government servant.
Yesterday, in reply of said application, the accused presented him in court. The accused was in the custody of FIA Rawalpindi on the charge of corruption in Hajj operation as Hajj director.
