ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif recently did not comply with the advice by his party workers for staging a long march to Islamabad in case the government failed to implement the reforms agenda within 45 days, Pakistan Today learnt on Monday.
Relaxing by a campfire at a recreational park in Cholistan with his friends, Nawaz was advised by PML-N workers to stage a long march to the capital. A source in the PML-N who accompanied Nawaz during his trip said the party chief had invited over a hundred party workers at the Whispering Hill to seek their input on the current political situation in the country.
“Nawaz barred all MNAs and MPAs from taking part in the conversation between him and the party workers. The PML-N workers advised Nawaz that the PML-N should not extend its 45-day deadline at any cost,” said the source. He said the party workers also asked Nawaz to go all out against the PPP government without fearing for the PML-N’s government in Punjab.
“Nawaz told the workers that a long march was not an option,” said the source, adding that Nawaz remained silent after telling his party men that he had come just to hear the workers’ sentiments.
“The PML-N chief told his workers that the party was not playing the role of a friendly opposition and his policy of restraint was meant to deprive opportunists from any chance to sneak into power corridors,” the source said, adding that the party workers also advised him not to hesitate in demanding mid-term polls.
