KARACHI – Two long range drives paved the way for Lyari Town to clinch the KESC Lyari Football League 2011 at Karachi’s Peoples Sports Complex on Monday. With 60-40 possession, they edged out Singolane 4-1 in the final.
Syed Khadim Ali Shah, SVP of SAFF and VP of PFF, was the chief guest of the match and presented champions Lyari Town, runners up Singolane, and bronze-medalists Bihar prizes of Rs one lac, 50,000 and 25,000 respectively besides the gold, silver and bronze medals.
Lyari Town’s skipper Muneer Aftab took the winner’s trophy from People’s Peace Committee Chairman Sardar Uzair Jan Baloch, while PFF`s General Secretary Ahmed Yar Khan Lodhi presented the runners up trophy to Singolane captain Nauman Noor.
The final turned out to be one-way traffic. Pakistan U14 skipper and midfielder Muneer Aftab landed the opener in the 8th minute with a right footed drive from 50-yards. But hardly ten minutes had elapsed when Singolane’s winger Idrees Rehman pulled one back, making it 1-all. Lyari Town regained advantage when another long range drive from Osama Raza saw the ball hitting the cross piece and drop behind Singolane keeper Usama. LT consolidated the lead in the dying minutes of first half through Muneer Ahmed. Winger Zohaib rounded off the tally in the 44th minute.
Earlier, Bihar collected the third spot by beating Kalakot 1-0 at Kalakot’s Shaheed Abdul Rehman Park.
The lone goal of the third position playoff match was scored by Bihar’s striker Amjad Hussain in the third minute. Bihar’s Muhammad Junaid was voted man of the match.
