LHC hears contempt petition on Janki Devi Hospital appointment

LAHORE – A division bench of Lahore High Court on a contempt petition regarding appointing medical superintendent (MS) of Janki Devi Hospital, Lahore summoned a deputy attorney general for February 8.
A gynecologist of Janki Devi Hospital Dr Rubina Asif moved contempt petition against Chairman Syed Asif Hashmi, vice chairman Dr Muhammad Ali and secretary Evacuee Trust Property Board. Petitioner counsel Muhammad Asif Ismail submitted that Dr Rubina had already filed an appeal regarding appointment of MS which is pending before the court.
Counsel said that the LHC on November 3 while issuing notice on her petition had ordered that the process of appointment of MS should remain stayed. He alleged that despite a stay order the secretary Evacuee Trust Property Board on December 28, appointed Dr Fehmida Aslam a dental surgeon to look after the charge of MS. He said that even the chairman published a proclamation in a newspaper seeking application against the post of MS.
He said that this act is clear violation of the LHC order. He said that the respondents hold very responsible office and they are supposed to be more vigilant and law abiding citizen of the country. Counsel said the respondents act to start process is not only contumacious and derogatory with the intention to prejudice the proceedings of the pending matter.
He requested that all three respondents should be summoned and proceedings on violating the court order should be initiated against them.
