PESHAWAR – Lawyers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa observed complete strike on Monday on the call of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) that announced lawyers’ strike on one day a week till the safe recovery of the abducted lawyers.
They said if their abducted colleagues, Zain Khan Khalil and Bashir Khan were not recovered safely, the government would be responsible for the consequences. Senior lawyers Zain Khan Khalil was kidnapped from Peshawar on September 30, 2010 while Bashir Khan was missing for the last two years. Lawyers arranged their Provincial Lawyers’ Convention at the premises of the Peshawar High Court building where all the presidents and vice presidents of the district bars across the province participated in the convention. The convention was called for discussion on a four-point agenda including kidnapping for ransom, failure of the government to maintain peace, missing persons’ issues and end to judicial corruption.
PHCBA President Syed Attique Shah said the kidnapping for ransom was increasing but the provincial government and police were silent over the kidnapping of lawyers and city traders.
