In-laws booked for woman’s murder

KASUR – The police have registered a murder case against Farman Ali and his parents for allegedly setting his wife on fire at village Rai Kalan. Salma Bibi’s father, Maqsood Ahmed, alleged his daughter had been burnt by her in-laws. He added she often complained of the injustices of her in-laws.
Land retrieved from illegal occupants will be auctioned: On the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the district administration has decided to auction the 18-kanal commercial land retrieved from illegal occupants at Laliani Adda.
DCO Malik Jahanzaib Awan told reporters that some influential people had captured the 18-kanal commercial land and had built a marriage hall, four godowns, 20 shops and a taxi stand on it. He added after the legal documentation, the district collector issued orders to retrieve the land. The value of the land was more than Rs 500 million, he revealed and said arrangements were being made to auction the land before March 15 as per the orders of the Punjab CM. The auction would be held under the supervision of the Privatisation Board chairman after giving an advertisement in newspapers.
‘KILN WORKERS BEING TREATED LIKE SLAVES’: Thousands of brick kiln workers and their families are facing multiple problems in the district, said newly elected DBA president, Chaudhry Sharif Zahid, at a meeting. He said the workers were deprived of basic facilities like education and health. They were also unaware of their social and legal rights owing to which they were being treated like slaves, he added. Research and Planning Director Tahir Mehmood said his organistion had chalked out a plan which would end forced labour. Sharif Chopra, a participant of the meeting, underlined the need of joint efforts to address the problems of the working class, including industrial and brick kiln workers. A resolution tabled by the district supervisory committee to solve the problems of brick kiln workers was approved unanimously.
ONE KILLED, FOUR INJURED: A man was killed and four others received serious injuries in a collision between two rickshaws near Jagowala Road in the Pattoki police precincts.Reportedly, Shamsuddin’s rickshaw carrying some passengers collided with the rickshaw of Muhammad Ashraf coming from the opposite side. As a result, Niamat Ali, one of the passengers, died instantly while Maryam, Shahnaz, Naseem and were seriously injured.
