LAHORE – Chehlum of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) grandson Imam Hussain (RA), his family members and companions would be observed nationwide today (Tuesday). Mourners would organise taazia, zuljanah and taboot processions to salute supreme sacrifice of martyrs of Karbala. Majalis-e-Aza would also be held to commemorate loss of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) grandson.
In Lahore, the main procession would be taken out from the Nisar Haveli to Karbala Gamay Shah. Processions would start in the morning and conclude at around midnight. Processions from other parts of the city will also reach Karbala Gamay Shah.
Religious scholar Maulana Afzal Haidri told Pakistan Today that they want to end the main procession at Maghrib prayers but due to Urs of Data Ganj Bakhsh and presence of a large number of devotees, law enforcing agencies feel that it is not possible.
“For security purposes, police usually stop our procession until conclusion of dua at the Data Darbar. That is why we have to wait until late at night,” Haidri said.
