LAHORE – A car owned by former Inspector General of Punjab Police Maj Mushtaq was stolen on Monday from his house in South Cantonment Police precincts. Police registered a case against unidentified car thieves and started investigating.
The police said that a car with a green number plate bearing registration number LXA-1654 was being used by former Inspector General of Punjab Police Maj Mushtaq. Maj Mushtaq’s driver Constable Irfan Baig parked the car outside the house in Cavalry Ground’s Street 17 late on Tuesday and went to sleep.
When he got up early on Monday, he came out and found the car missing over which he immediately informed the police, who reached the scene and registered a case on the complaint of Constable Irfan Baig and started probing into the matter.
Irfan Baig told police that the car was parked in the park located in front of the house. He also said that he himself checked the car at night after it was parked while a constable namely Muhammad Iqbal, who was on duty at the gate, also saw the car parked there at about 2 am.
He said however when they checked the car again at about 12 pm on Monday, they found the car missing from its parking space. Investigation officer Sub Inspector Muhammad Anwar told Pakistan Today that investigations are underway and they have not been able to trace any clue of the stolen vehicle yet.
Government vehicles with green number plates are being stolen more and more in the city. It was observed that in major terrorism incidents, terrorists have used government owned vehicles. Lahore Police investigators suspect the aforementioned vehicle was also lifted by the suspected terrorists.
