LAHORE – Ciro’s Pomodoro clinched the Caanchi & Lugari Pakistan Polo Cup title by beating JS Bank/Waste Busters in the final at the Lahore Polo Club on Sunday. Borjan (Pvt) Ltd Chief Executive Zahid Hussain was the chief guest of the evening and distributed prizes among the winners.
Earlier in the day, PSS International grabbed the third place in the tournament with win over Master Paints by six-and-a-half goals to five. Ciro’s Pomodoro beat JS Bank/Waste Busters by 9 goals to 9 1/5. JS Bank/Waste Busters’ Ahmed Nawaz Tiwana and Ahmed Ali Tiwana shared eight goals between them while Zain Khan Khakwani added one goal. Ciro’s Pomodoro half-a-goal winning handicap decided the fate of the match.
Bilal Haye Mehta, Raja Temur Nadeem and Hamza Mawaz Khan went all guns firing to keep the star-studded rivals line-up on their toes. Every time JS Bank/Waste Busters gained lead, Ciro’s Pomodoro responded forecefully. Although JS Bank/Waste Busterswent lead 5-3 by the close of second chukker but Ciro’s Pomodoro never allowed their rivals to run away with the lead and kept the match a closely fought affair.
In the closing stages, JS Bank/Waste Busterswent scored three goals in succession but Ciro’s Pomodoro replied with the same fashion which brought the handicap margin into the play. Saqib Khan Khakwani played solo battle to thwart Shah Qublai Alam-led Masters. All the six goals of PSS International were the efforts of Saqib and their half-a-goal advantage earned them clear win.
Shah Shamyl Alam and Azhar Ali supervised the subsidiary final while Mian Hussain Iftikhar and Asif Tiwana manned the main title game.
