LAHORE – For the first time since the PML-N took over the provincial government in 2008, district police officers (DPOs) will be posted without interviews, solely on the recommendation of the inspector general of police (IGP), Pakistan Today learnt reliably on Sunday.
Posting DPOs without interviews shows how authoritative and assertive newly-appointed IGP Javed Iqbal is, as officers at this level are usually appointed after the approval of the chief minister after interviews.
According to a notification issued late on Saturday, the IGP transferred and posted two superintendents of Lahore Police, including SP (Operations) Model Town Rana Ayyaz Saleem and SP (Investigations) Model Town Abdul Ra’ab as DPOs of Sahiwal and Mandi Bahaud Din, while Farooq Mazhar was appointed the Jhang DPO.
However, sources in the Punjab Police said that since the PML-N took administrative charge of Punjab, this was the first time that the chief minister had allowed the IGP to appoint the officials as DPOs without interviewing them. The sources said the postings showed the authority of Javed Iqbal.
