KARACHI – Karachi is the economic heart of Pakistan and the Sindh government has always strived to strengthen the city and enhance its productive capacity, Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Information Sharmila Farooqui said on Sunday.
“The PPP government has increased the beauty of Karachi during the last three years by completing 230 schemes at a cost of Rs 50 billion and different projects are being completed with an amount of Rs 16 billion during the current year,” she said while talking to a delegation of the Urban Rural Development Organisation at her office.
The provincial adviser said that the population of the city has reached 180 million and traffic problems are also increasing with each passing day. “Many major roads are also being improved to redress traffic problems,” she added. The Karachi Circular Railway Project is also being started with the assistance of the Japanese government to benefit millions of the city’s commuters, she said.
Farooqui said that Hyderabad is the second largest city of the province and the Sindh government has allocated Rs 3.8 billion rupees for 31 schemes in the city. “Most of these schemes have been completed,” she added. The adviser said that the present government had committed to carry out development work in all areas of the province on the basis of equality and is utilising all its resources to achieve this objective.
She said that the Sindh government has spent Rs 15 billion to eradicate poverty from the province. On this occasion, the members of delegation appreciated the government’s efforts said that they support its policies.
