PESHAWAR – A series of unmanned US drone strikes in North Waziristan on Sunday killed at least 13 militants, officials said, as tribesmen took to the streets to protest the aerial campaign.
According to local intelligence officials, in the first attack that took place in Datta Khel area, two missiles were fired on a vehicle seconds after it was parked outside a house, killing four suspected militants. The militants were said to be members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban North Waziristan Hafiz Gul Bahadar group.
In the second drone strike, a motorcycle was targeted in the same area, killing three militants, security officials from Miranshah told Pakistan Today. In the third strike in Mando Khel, a vehicle parked inside a suspected militant compound was hit, AFP reported.
“A US drone was chasing a vehicle, it fired two missiles just after the car was parked. Six militants have been killed and three injured,” an intelligence official in Miranshah said. Meanwhile, hundreds of tribesmen went on a complete shutter-down strike in Mir Ali.
They also staged a protest rally against the frequent drone attacks in North Waziristan. All the markets remained closed and traffic suspended on the busy Bannu-Miranshah road.
