LAHORE – Jamia Ashrafia Vice-Principal Maulana Abdur Rehman Ashrafi was laid to rest at the Ichra graveyard on Sunday. Rehman’s son, Maulana Ahmed Hassan Ashrafi, led the funeral prayer, which was attended by people from all walks of life. Strict security measures were taken during the funeral prayer, which was offered after Zohar prayers at the Jamia Ashrafia. Former federal minister Ijazul Haq, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Secretary General Liaqat Baloch and other religious leaders attended the funeral.
Rehman, 76, died of renal failure at a private hospital on Saturday night. Born in Amritsar, India, Rehman received top degrees in religious education from the Darul Uloom Deoband, India was student of renowned Indian scholar Maulana Hussain Ahmad Madni.
