Weekly inflation falls by 0.32pc

ISLAMABAD – The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for up to Rs 3,000 income group, has registered a 0.32 percent decrease in the week ended on January 20 compared to the previous week. The SPI, for the week under review in the above mentioned group, was recorded at 300.06 points compared to 301.02 points in the previous week, according to provisional figures revealed by the Federal Bureau of Statistics.
SPI, for the combined group, also decreased by 0.27 percent, declining to 284.42 points compared to 285.18 points in the previous week. However, the SPI increased by 18.12 percent in comparison to the corresponding week of last year. The SPI dwindled by 0.32 percent, 0.28 percent and 0.20 percent for income groups ranging between Rs 3001 to 5000, Rs 5001 to Rs 12000 and above Rs 12000 respectively.
The week under review saw average prices of 11 items decrease, while prices of 19 commodities increased. Prices of 23 items stayed unchanged. Items, recording a decrease in their average prices during the week under review, include tomatoes, onions, potatoes, garlic, sugar, gur, mash pulse (washed), masoor pulse (washed), egg hen (farm), vegetable ghee (loose) and gram pulse (washed). Items, exhibiting an increase in their average prices, include bananas, LPG(11 kg cylinder), mustard oil, chicken (farm), rice (irri-6), salt powdered, shirting, coarse latha, rice basmati (broken), vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), red chilies,
firewood, washing soap, milk (fresh), moong pulse (washed), wheat (average quality, and wheat flour (average quality). Commodities, showing no change in their average prices, include beef, mutton, bread, milk (powdered), curd, tea (packet), tea (prepared), cooked dal, cooked beef, cigarettes, lawn, sandal (gents), sandal (ladies), kerosene, electricity bulb, match, bath soap, gas charges, electricity charges, petrol and diesel.
