ISLAMABAD – Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Saturday said the Sindh Rangers and Sindh Police had been vested with powers to take action against law breakers.
“The recent action in Orangi Town in Karachi was a law-enforcement measure in the same context. It was directed against anti-social elements and land grabbers. No operation, as has been claimed in some sections of the press, has been launched in Karachi,” Malik said.
According to a press release, the law-enforcement forces were under strict orders to seek instructions from the Sindh Home Department. “Only in case of authentic and timely intelligence, action can be taken for nabbing any culprit.
However, information of such an action will be conveyed to the Home Department at the earliest. No discretion or arbitrariness will be tolerated in this regard,” Malik said.
I am not sure if this is good decision, to give the police so much power…
