KARACHI – The law and order situation in Karachi could be improved if martial law-like steps are taken in the city, spiritual leader of the Hurs and PML-F chief Pir Pagara said on Saturday.
“Impose martial law-like steps in Karachi and the situation will improve. The civil administration has failed [in maintaining law and order], and when this happens, the army comes in,” he said in his customary style while talking to journalists after meeting with a PML-Q delegation at his residence, Kingri House.
When asked whether the MQM and other parties would have reservations over his suggestion or not, he said that he is talking only about the people of Karachi and maintaining law and order in the city. When asked which force is involved in Karachi killings, he replied, “Hamari wali quwat mulawis naheen (not that force, which supports us)”.
Responding to another question, Pagara said that he had already said that the government would not complete its five-year tenure and the set-up would come to an end in 2011. “They (the rulers) will go because of corruption and law and order,” he added. He predicted that a caretaker government would come in place and start the accountability of politicians.
“I had earlier advised those living abroad to remain outside the country, but they have come back and they will also face accountability”, he added.
