ISLAMABAD – The country’s religio-political parties are planning to give masses a call for long march against the “government’s inaction to remove apprehensions and confusion on the fate of blasphemy law”. Liaqat Baloch, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Sahibzada Abu Alkhair Muhammad Zubair, Qari Zawar Bahadur and Maulana Amjad Khan, all important religious leaders, in telephonic conversations with one another on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction over the government’s response to the call of the religious parties to abolish the committee constituted under the chairmanship of MNA Shahbaz Bhatti and the delay in the withdrawal of a bill which sought amendments to the blasphemy law.
A source in the JUI-F said that the leaders also viewed the statements on part of the prime minister and PPP leader Fouzia Wahab on the issue as contradictory and confusing. He said, “The religious leaders are of the view that the government is not serious to resolve the issue once for all by coming up with a clear stance. The statements and inaction on part of the PPP leadership are generating confusion and doubts in the minds of people.”
“The only option available with religious parties under the circumstances is to make the people take notice of the issue,” the source said. Giving a brief outline of the planned long march under the banner of Tahaffuz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat Mahaz, the source said that people would march towards Rawalpindi from all the provincial headquarters to press the government on the issue, adding that the movement would continue until the achievement of objective
