CNA honours Dr Mughees

LAHORE – Council of National Affairs (CNA) arranged a sitting to honour Dr Mughees-ud-Din Sheikh, former dean of the Social and Behavioural Sciences and former director of the Institute of Communication Studies of the University of Punjab, at Aiwan-e-Iqbal on Friday.
Former Punjab governor Khalid Maqbool presided the session, whereas eminent journalists and academicians including Irshad Ahmad Arif, Abdullah Tariq Sohail, Rizwan Razi, Brig (r) Farooq Hameed, Dr Ahsan Akhter Naz, Sajjad Mir, Qayyum Nizami, Prof Aman-ullah, Dr Humayun Ehsan and others lauded the contributions of Dr Mughees for the promotion of communication studies.
Khalid Maqbool presented a shield to Dr Mughees, whereas Irshad Ahmad Arif presented a bouquet on the behalf of CNA to him. Khalid Maqbool said he had deep relations with him and during his governorship, Punjab’s education sector progressed at brisk pace and dozens of universities came into existence.
Dr Mughees thanked CAN and said people talked about his views about Islam and Pakistan, but he never discouraged his colleagues who had other opinions. He also discussed the ways to improve the performance of education sector and forced specialized education instead of general education. Institute of Communication Studies Director Dr Ahsan Akhter Naz became emotional while discussing his contributions and said Dr Mughees helped him at every stage of his life.
Former director of the National Accountability Bureau Brig (r) Farooq Hameed said Dr Mughees’ efforts to bring unity in the country after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, by arranging a national conference on the “Role of Media in National Integration” should be lauded. Famous author and politician, Qayyum Nizami termed Dr Mughees as a true patriot.
Guests said that after the mushroom growth of electronic media, ICS provided a trained human resource to these channels. Guests said that Dr Mughees knew how to defend the ideology of Islam and Pakistan and he defended the ideology at every forum.
Renowned journalist, Sajjad Mir said that no mass communication department in the country could match the quality of ICS and this was all because of Dr Mughees. Another journalist, Tanvir Shehzad said Dr Mughees helped poor students personally.
