PESHAWAR – Though PPP high command has finalised the name of Barrister Masud Kausar for the office of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa governor, but Awami National Party leadership is in favour of a non-controversial figure for the slot.
Pakistan Today learnt through highly reliable sources the PPP leadership had decided with consensus to post Barrister Masud Kausar as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa governor. Besides Barrister Masud Kausar, MPA from Lakki Marwat Anwar Saif Ullah Khan was also amongst the nominees of the ruling PPP.
The ANP leadership has proposed the name of former chief secretary Muhammad Azam Khan for this office. Another former chief secretary, Khalid Aziz, also tried his best to get the highest office of the province with the help of certain influential circles. However, the PPP leadership, after consulting the ANP high command, has finalised the name of Barrister Masud Kausar for the KP governor’s slot.
A high-ranking ANP leader, when contacted, confirmed the PPP decision regarding the posting of Barrister Masud Kausar as governor. But the ANP leader said, “We believe this office must go to a non-controversial figure.” Elaborating his point of view, the ANP leader said a governor was also responsible for looking after the affairs of the tribal belt. Similarly, he must be capable of maintaining cordial relations between the civil and military circles, which was essential to win the war on terror.
It is worth mentioning that since the previous general elections, it has been the desire of the PPP leadership to replace the sitting governor, Owais Ahmad Ghani, with a party stalwart. In this respect, they proposed the names of several people. The ANP leadership has rejected the name of Anwar Saif Ullah Khan.
