LAHORE – The Pakistan Today cricket team was on Wednesday awarded the Khayaban-i-Amin Media Cup trophy by the Chief Editor of the newspaper Mr Arif Nizami in a simple but impressive ceremony here at the Lahore Press Club’s Nisar Usmani Auditorium.
In the ceremony, rich tributes were paid to veteran journalist late Minhaj Burni for his contribution to journalism.
Pakistan Today’s stand-in captain Nadeem Ijaz received the trophy and cash award of Rs 50,000 for winning the Media Cup, sponsored by Sahir Associates and organised by Punjab Union of Journalists in collaboration with the Punjab Electronic Media Journalist Association. Value TV captain received the runners-up trophy and Rs 25000 in cash.
Apart from the Media Cup award ceremony, Minhaj Burni awards were also presented to some prominent journalists who are believed to be following the footsteps of Mr Burni and late Nisar Usmani.
Rose petals were showered at Pakistan Today players’ arrival at the auditorium and later Rana Azeem opened the ceremony with tributes to the journalists.
Veteran journalist Khalid Chaudhary, Rai Hasnain Tahir, Sarmad Bashir and several other spoke on the occasion. Pakistan Today’s Chief Editor, Mr Arif Nizami, while recognizing the services of Minhaj Burni and late Nisar Usmani, praised those journalists who resigned from their jobs and stood by him in bringing out Pakistan Today. He also criticised the media owners who do not respect their employees and terminate their services at whims. Congratulating the Pakistan Today cricket team, Arif Nizami said that praising the team was like praising himself. He vowed to stand by those who supported him in difficult times.
