ISLAMABAD – Pakistan on Thursday rejected the media reports suggesting that the Taliban chief Mullah Muhammad Omar was treated in a Karachi hospital after he had suffered a heart attack.
An ISPR spokesman, in a statement, strongly contradicted the news item appeared in local and international media about the medical treatment of Afghan Taliban Mullah Omar at Karachi. He said that news was ‘unfounded and concocted’ to serve vested interests’.
Foreign Office Abdul Basit also rejected the media reports about Taliban leader’s medical treatment in Karachi. He said, “This is the same hackneyed speculation with no substance.” He said such reports were aimed at maligning Pakistan and creating misgivings and doubts.
However, he said that all such machinations were bound to fail because Pakistan was fully committed to the Afghanistan-led peace process. “No amount of falsehood can create a wedge between Afghanistan and Pakistan,” he said adding that both the states were partners in peace and stability.
